So we're home~!
Actually, been home for a few days, but have been resting and working and such.
So! To continue the epic roadtrip saga~
We didn't really do much else in HI after Pearl Harbor. Mostly shopping. On our last day there we played tennis with Wes. ::laugh:: 'Cause why else does one go to Hawaii, except for tennis? .^^
Then we headed back to CA, spending the next four days in Los Angeles, at Anime Expo 2009. And while I adore my friend Sophia (whom I was on this trip with), there were several times I really wished I could have been at the convention with anyone else. She thinks anime fans, especially the ones who cosplay, are huge losers, and I suspect I'm not considered any different in that respect. But she put up with it, and followed me around all weekend.
The main reason I wanted to go to AX was, of course, to see Toshiyuki Morikawa. =3 And while I did manage to get an autograph, it wasn't without a FUCKLOAD of trouble.
His discussion panel was the first day, and it went well for the most part. But then they had the open Q&A session. I got in line to ask a question, but just as I was getting closer to the front, they said no more. TWO PEOPLE AWAY from me, and they cut off questions. So my meaningful, insightful question didn't get asked, but the dumb cunt who requested "Can you say, as Sephiroth, 'will you marry me'?" was able to get her giant waste of everyone's time in. And I don't even want to think about what she did with that memory in mind later that night. .-_-
So then we ran to the autograph signing, and lined up. And waited, and waited, and waited. And then, with FIVE PEOPLE left before my turn, they said no more.
FUCK! Twice in one day, I get turned away.
And I was wearing my cute dress and everything. .;____;
Oh, and then there was the amazing fuckwittery that was Naruto. Well, not really Naruto, but a fat chick poorly cosplaying Naruto, whom we will forever refer to as Naruto. After they said no more autographs that day, she had the gall to walk up to the person in charge and say "I've been here since nine o'clock in the morning! Can't you let just me in! Just me! I've been here all day, waiting through two other guests' sessions! Just me!" And of course, I was standing off to the side snerking "Entitlement much? I haven't slept in two days, maybe I should get special treatment too."
But see, those of us standing around were hashing it out, trying to figure out how, if she really had been there since 9am, how did she end up so far back in line? She was way behind me, even. And after some contemplating, we realized, she probably left the autograph room to go to his panel. Well, that's honorable enough, but... it still means she wasn't there waiting all day.
But that's neither here nor there. I just couldn't believe someone thought they were special enough to be able to walk up and say "just let me in" (of course, I've been working in retail long enough that this shouldn't be such a shock to me...).
So after that big letdown, we just left and checked in to our hotel. We were both tired (since we really hadn't slept in two days, due to having a redeye flight and not being able to sleep sitting up) and I was super grumpy after being turned away frommy husband Morikawa twice.
Next day, I felt much better. We had to get up uber early, but for a good reason. GUEST RECEPTION! Oh yes, I got up at the butt crack of dawn so I could be on time to sit at a table with Morikawa and have a chit-chat. X3
He is so super-duper cute up close in person. He has a wibble mouth. And is pretty thoughtful, and serious about his work. Then when it was time to change tables, he shook everyone's hand, but I'm so freaking short and was sitting on the other side of the table, so I reeeeeeeached out and all he could do was grab my fingers. .^^;;
And talking to the other guests was great too. I sat with two video game creators (who's names I don't know, and don't feel like looking up right now, but one of them was in charge of creating the Guilty Gear games), and we were asking what kind of games they play. So they were talking about that, then one of them said they like to play together, so I had to ask "Who's better?" ;P They said "We both suck." ::laugh:: Super cute.
Then headed back to the convention center, for Morikawa's next autograph session. And waited, and waited, and waited. Naruto was there, cosplaying a different character, but I'll forever call her Naruto, but she was much closer to the front this time. So I'm waiting, not quite so close to the front this time when they came in and said no more.
ARGH!!
They said he'd be back though, so I sat down and just waited it out. It took me waiting through three autograph sessions, but I finally got my book signed.
::happy sigh::
And then he shook my hand after signing, so that's why I get to say he touched me twice.
(And to quote... myself... "Unfortunately, it was completely appropriate.")
So, mission accomplished. We spent the rest of the con shopping in the dealer's room, watching random panels, watched part of Evangelion, but that was actually the only anime viewing we did. ::laugh:: It's amazing how little anime I watch at cons. .^^; Sophia grew a deep deep love for the copic marker booth, so she ended up spending a lot of time and money there, while I bought OTP figurines.
It was during this weekend that Los Angeles announced they'd be doing the special memorial...thing... for Michael Jackson at the Staples Center, which is right next to the convention center. So one night we had the news on and they were showing footage of the Staples Center, woe-ing over MJ, and there's random cosplayers walking around in the background.
I lol'd.
On the last day of the con, I put my cute dress on again, and made a battle plan for the open autograph session. I still needed to get
aizome's autograph, plus I also wanted to get Yun Kouga to sign my Loveless manga. So we checked out of the hotel and went to the convention center. I had no idea when the open autograph session was, so we wandered around for a bit (it was really early) until the info booths opened, and asked there. The open session was at noon, so... we came really early for nothing, actually. .^^; But it did mean we were able to watch all the discussion panels with the guests of honor.
First was the artists panel, and that was pretty cool. Then was directors, and that was cool too. And funny, at times. Then was the voice actor's panel... and they announced that Morikawa had to go back to Japan that morning, so he wouldn't be there.
....... I am now convinced my cute dress is cursed. .>_>
But we stuck around anyway, since Kari Wahlgren was there. I don't usually care about dub voice actors, but I had talked with her a bit at the guest reception, and I really liked her as a person. And at the panel, she was hilarious! I love her to bits now, because she was so witty! XD I fan her.
Then I went to the open autograph session. Waited outside for at least an hour, got sunburned, and became convinced the creepy guy behind me was trying to take pictures up my skirt. Good times, all around. But in the end, I got Yun Kouga's autograph. .^_^ She even wrote "サンシャインさま" on it. XD So I'm a "-sama" now. ;P
::laughs:: I carried Tachi and Quincy around with me that day, but I had them in my tote bag while waiting for the autograph (didn't want them out in the sun), so after I got my manga signed, I stopped by a table to pull them out and arrange them comfortably on my arm, and some guy stopped and was poking at them and held Quincy for a bit and was pretty amazed by them. X3 It was cute.
And then, right after that, Sophia called me from the dealer's room and was like "I found a board with Tyki on it! There's only one left, so come get it quick!" ::chuckle:: So I ran to the dealer's room, found her, and during that time she'd found a whole bunch of D.Gray-man shitajiki. I sorted through them, then spotted the Kuroshitsuji boards. .^^ In the end, I got one of Tyki and Road, and one of Sebastian.
Oh yeah! And at one point we were about to get on an escalator, when who should appear but Naruto! She cut in front of Sophia and was all like "Excuse me!" in her fat stupid way, and pushed everyone aside all the way up. Obnoxious cow.
So, my last thing I had to do at AX09 was to talk to.... someone.
My ex, the one I'll never get over, and her... I don't know- her wife that she dumped me for, always get a table in artist's alley at all the big CA cons. I'd been fighting with myself all weekend, about whether or not to say hi, or just pretend she's not there, but in the end, I decided to say hi. At the very least, I wanted to say hi.
And I did. I shook like an epileptic leaf the whole time, but I said hi, and we got to talking, and actually had a nice little conversation. And it was good. And... I feel better.
.........
So we left the con after that. And left CA. And drove and drove and drove, until we hit Phoenix, AZ. And I amused myself for days pronouncing it "Pee-nix," because it sounds so much like "penis," and I'm totally immature. XD XD XD
I kind of don't care for AZ. It's hot. Too hot. And I mean... there's a strong wind, so you'd think that'd feel good in the heat, but NO! The wind itself is over 9000 degrees! So while I'm not declaring war on AZ (unlike NE), we may have a skirmish on our hands.
Stopped by my Uncle's place in Kingman, AZ the following day, and we finally got to eat STEAK!! FRIGGIN' STEAK!!! YES!!! XD It was totally not chicken.
Then we just jetted back home. Stopped... somewhere, I don't remember where, but nothing really eventful.
Except the pheasant.... and the dingo....
Ok, so, somewhere in AZ or TX or OK or somewhere, I was driving, and saw a thing in the road. But it was getting dark, so I couldn't really see what it was. But I became convinced it was a dingo. I don't care if there aren't any dingos in the U.S. Luckily, it ran out of the road.
Can't say the same for the pheasant.
I will say, we must have driven some 8,000 miles on this trip, so that we only killed one animal is good form for us, I'd say. I don't actually know if it was a pheasant. Again, it was getting dark (this was, like, seconds after the dingo), but I know it was a large-ish bird (Grandma says it might have been a roadrunner..). It was running across the road, and I started slowing down, but... Well, all the other birds I'd come close to hitting flew away at the last second! I figured this one would too........ But it didn't.... .;____; After the thud, I looked in the rear view mirror and just saw an explosion of feathers. I could have cried. I suck.
Then, shortly after that, there was a coyote standing in the road. ::facepalm:: I was able to stop for this one. Yelled at it, in ran out of the road, we continued on. Didn't see any wildlife after that..... .^^;
And now we're home, and I hate it. Little fucktards have been here, screaming like morons non-stop for four days now. There are clear signs that people (probably involving said little fucktards) have been going through my stuff, but my dollie-money-jar still has everything I left it with, so I'm going to try to let it go.
I guess things will be going back to normal. Too bad.......
Holy Jesus, that was long. .@_@
