I think Scar may have broken his leg.. .;_; Last night I heard him fluttering, so I looked in the cage and he was hanging half out of the little bamboo nest I have for them, thrashing about. Apparently he got a nail or something caught in the weaving of the nest, and was stuck, and trying desperately to get free. So I reached in and helped him free, but then he couldn't...like...use that leg. He'd sit on a perch, but couldn't close his back toe, and kept slipping off. .;_; Then he sat on the little platform, and was fine for a while, then when I was about to go to bed I heard him fluttering and cheeping again, so I looked and he had fallen off the platform, holding on by his good leg, but was stuck between the main part of the platform and one of the perches attached to it. .;o; He was in such distress! .;o; So I helped him up again... And then chased him around until he settled on the floor of the cage, where he couldn't fall off anything. And he seemed content there, so that's how I left him for the night.
This morning he was back up on the platform. And between work and school I've been gone ALL day, and still won't be home for another three and a half hours, and I'm SOU worried about him! .;o; I mean...I know even if his leg really is broken he wouldn't die from it, but what if he falls or something? What if he can't get to the food or water and starves? .... Well, but he seemed to be getting around ok, so I guess that won't happen; he just can't perch very well. But what if he's in pain!? .;o;
It's probably stupid to be getting so upset over a tiny bird...but damnit! I love my little cheepsters.. .~_~
And at work I was all like "should I call a vet!?" But even if I could find a vet who could work on a finch, it'd probably cost me more money than I have, and what could they do? But then, if the leg or foot is broken, and doesn't get set or something, it'll heal wrong and be messed up forever... But it's not financially sensible to spend $90 for a vet on a bird that only cost $20. But then...it's not really about money. But then again... I really simply don't think there are any vets who'd even bother with a tiny little bird.
And then my co-worker just looked at me and said "you really love animals. I can tell."
Well, I hope it was just sore or strained or something, not anything life-threatening. I don't want to have to bury him next to Ed.
Though a random, cute excerpt to this is that when I heard the fluttering the first time, I just thought they were messing around like they do, until Kurama jumped up on the bed and laid down as close to their cage as she could get, and then stared at me. I joked to her that was she trying to draw my attention to the birds? And that's when I saw Scar's dilemma.
Is it possible, maybe she considers them family too?
Edit -
Now that I'm home... He's doing much better. =3 He's staying up on perches just fine, and though he doesn't seem to be able to close that foot again yet, it's not affecting his balance as much. He is...limping though. (like...finches hop around a lot, and he's hopping one-footed) But I'm a lot more relieved now. And apparently Al is too, because he's been grooming Scar incessantly. X3
