So. For my trip I'm booked to stay at this little place called JGH Hostel. Because you just can't beat a place to stay in Tokyo for $10 a night. X3

And so I've been looking at some reviews other people have written about the place, and it seems there's quite a few...not so good reviews. I mean, there's just as many good reviews, but...well, usually people go for places with little to no bad...ness. The general tone seems to be "you get what you pay for," if not a downright "I'd rather sleep on the street than ever stay here again." .>_>

But from what these people are saying, they sound an awful lot like somewhat immature Americans who were expecting something more like a hotel rather than a hostel.

For instance, one person wrote "there were no shower facilites[sic] or cooking facilities in our room..."

....

Well what the fuck were you expecting at a $10 a day hostel!? Were you expecting a fucking suite? Do you want room service with that too!?

And they also said something about booking an 8-bed dorm, which confuses me because on all the sites where it's listed, the most it says it offers is a 6-bed dorm. Then they go on to say they were upset because when they got there the room wasn't ready and "the owner and family ran off upstairs, tools in hand."

Perhaps, as dumb Americans, they didn't know that generally all the tatami mats in a room are replaced for guests. While I understand them being miffed that this wasn't already prepared (though that's an opinion that could be swayed if known how busy the staff was at the time), it would again beg the statement, it's not a hotel. It's not even a motel. It's a family letting you stay in what probably also doubles as their home, for a very, very small fee.

Another bad reviewer says that at first they mistook their room for a closet, then were very upset at how small it was when they realized it was the actual room.

Again, they obviously don't know a thing about Japan. Newsflash - the rooms there are small. Even in hotels, unless it's one of the more expensive ones. And especially in Tokyo; there's a lot of people crammed in that city, and if they'd done a little research they'd probably find one of the first things people say about the city is that everyone is on top of one another. It's common knowledge.

So I would like to take these reviews with a grain of salt. Not only do they seem to know little about Japan, but they also were apparently incapable of using proper grammar and capitalization in their writing. ( .^^* ) And I bet their mommies paid for their trip for them.

However, I must also remember to go into this hostel thing with an open mind. I need to go in expecting nothing, because I don't want to end up disappointed, as they were.

I would also like to mention my amusement that so far it looks like I may be the only person staying there at that time? .^^* Because all the booking pages it's listed on say all the beds are available except one. (of course that doesn't account for any walk-ins there may be, or that there's still two months before that time, or if someone books with them a way other than through the web sites. but still..) Wouldn't that be neat!? X3

Now to plot things to do! X3
