home of death
Dec. 14th, 2010 10:32 pmThere's a section of the 8th grade English textbook that shows ways to talk about one's home/city. It gives an example that goes "I live in Koganei. It's in the west of Tokyo. It's famous for its beautiful park. There are many cherry trees in the park. I love my city."
So one of the teachers asked me to write a similar thing about my home city. Of course, there's literally nothing to talk about with Waterford, Michigan, so I figured I'd write about Detroit instead. It's close enough. So I wrote something generic, like "I come from Detroit. It's in the east of Michigan. It's famous for its cars," and so on. Nice and generic.
But if I felt like being super honest, I would have to write "Detroit is in the east of Michigan. It's famous for murder. There are many drive-bys in the city. It's a shithole; don't ever go there."
