day 21 → a recipe

Ingredients:
* 4 cups steamed Japanese rice
* 8 strips of dried nori (seaweed)
* Salt to taste
* *For fillings:
* ume (pickled plum) / grilled salted salmon (small chunks) / kombu tsukudani
Preparation:
Cook steamed rice. Put about a half cup of steamed rice in a rice bowl. Make a dent in the center of the rice and place fillings, such as ume (pickled plum), kombu tsukudani, and grilled salmon chunks. Wet your hands in water so that the rice won't stick. Rub some salt on your hands. Place the rice in the rice bowl on your hands. Form the rice into a round or a triangle, by pressing lightly with your both palms. Wrap the rice ball with a strip of nori.
**I actually use tuna for filling. .^_^ It's good! Oh, and I add sesame seeds on top too. Oh, and some Chinese Five Spice. So actually... I don't make them anything like this. XD But mine are totally delicious.

I'm three days behind now?
day 17 → an art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)

That's a... sculpture, I guess you'd say, that was in the Yorkdale mall in Toronto. ::chuckle:: I came out of the elevator from the parking garage, and there's this giant hand there. .^^
Looks a bit like Ed's automail arm, ne?

day 16 → a song that makes you cry (or nearly)
All music will automatically defer to Adam Lambert.. .^^
This song reminds me of B and Cillian so very much, so when I listen to it I think of all the things B has been through, and everything he's going through internally because of it, and sometimes, if I'm in the right frame of mind, it makes me all misty-eyed. .;_; Poor guy.
Notable lines would be:
"Just don't give up, I am working it out."
"It messed me up, need a second to breathe."
"But thanks for loving me, 'cause you're doing it perfectly."
"There might have been a time when I would let you slip away. I wouldn't even try, but I think you could save my life."
.......
I'ma go cry now. .;____;

Jan. 15th, 2010 11:41 pmday 15 → a fanfic
Huh... I have no fun image to post for this... .^^;
Well anyway, my fanfic recommendation is this!! XD
Summary, by the author:
"In which a drunk Atobe tries to pick Tezuka up at a bar, and Tezuka is very, very married."
It's fun. And I totally didn't "get it" until, like the very end. ::laughs:: Because I'm clueless, and need things spelled out for me. ;P

day 14 → a non-fictional book
I don't read much non-fiction, but I chose this..

I had to read it for a class, but found it very interesting. It made me sad and angry and WTF all at the same time. It's a good read; I recommend it to anyone into politics and/or Asian studies, even if it's not required by a class.
::nod nod::
In other news, I do not understand the tightening of security at airports in America when the triggering attack was by someone who boarded a plane in Amsterdam. You can tighten shit here all you want, it's not going to do any fucking good if they're getting on planes in other countries!!
Gods, I'm going to have to get to the airport 15 hours in advance next time I go anywhere. .-_-

day 13 → a fictional book
It's probably fiction...

I've been reading this book since the middle of 2005. ..... I'm not even half way through. .>_> I think it may be this specific translation, but it's very difficult to read, since it always refers to the characters as "His Grace" or "His Eminence" or some such. Always by their titles, which change all the time. So it's very hard to keep track of who's who.
Maybe someday though~

I should be on track now...?
day 12 → whatever tickles your fancy
I finally got around to taking some doll pics today, and while I was working on that, we had a curious little visitor.

Kitty~! Tomo always always always has to come bug us when we're taking pictures, and when possible, he likes to rub up against dollies and knock them over. He didn't get a chance this time, though.
And the good(?) news is that Grandma finally decided to have the vet do his bloodwork, so we can find out what's wrong with him. Should have an answer in a few days, I guess.

Ho shit, now I'm two days behind. .>_>
day 11 → a photo of you taken recently
Ok, this is seriously the most recent picture of me. .>_> From last year.

Had some guy take it when I got Kouga Yun's autograph at AX. ... Too bad there wasn't any time to get a pic with Morikawa. .^^; But she's cute too.
And you can see what a big fat cow I am now.

Jan. 10th, 2010 10:03 pmday 10 → a photo of you taken over ten years ago
Tee hee~

That pic was taken when I was 16 (so... 13 years ago?), when my Dad, younger sister, and I went to Las Vegas (I'm the shorty in the middle - my "little" sister is four years younger than me). It may very well have been what started my love for birds. =P I weighed about 60 pounds less then than I do now, and was actually - gasp! - a girl.
::chuckle::

day 08 → a photo that makes you angry/sad
Another easy one.....

There is very little in this world that pisses me off more than the Westboro Baptist Church. The fact that most other Christians find them bat-fucking-shit insane says a lot about their disgusting fanaticism. On one hand, I wish someone would just take them all out in a blaze of fire, but on the other hand, I'm fairly sure that would turn them into martyrs for some, and that thought is just as bad as them living. However, I do truly wish there could be some kind of law enacted that would prevent them from holding their picket lines at soldiers' funerals. I know they have a right to assemble, blah blah blah, bullshit. They are intentionally hurting people who've already lost so much, and it needs to be stopped.
And in today's news, apparently during my two days off someone over in Target's cafe got lazy and didn't label food as needed or clean as necessary, and somebody reported something, and today the health inspector came in... while I was there. .-_- And all I could say was "I wasn't here, I don't know what happened." But fuck, why do I have to deal with other people's screw-ups?

Jan. 7th, 2010 01:11 pmday 07 → a photo that makes you happy
Hee hee~ This one is easy, since I just saw this pic right now. .^__^

I don't know who I'm more jealous of. .^,^
So yesterday I went to the knee doctor again, probably for the last time. It's been feeling better, and he said at this point the only thing he could do is surgery to make it totally pain-free right now. But I think that's a bit unnecessary at this point. I think it'll be slow going, but it seems like the knee is going to heal itself eventually. So he said I only should need to go back if I'm feeling some major pain again. Hopefully I won't need to.
Also yesterday (was a very busy day.. .>_> ) I sent off all the documents I needed to send to start the process of getting my visa to work in Japan. .^____^ But, damn, it cost $28 to send it express mail. .>_>
But... but... Things are getting underway, and I'm glad.
So~ Hopefully...

Damn it, I missed again! .^^; ::subtly changes date:: Yes, I cheat.
day 06 → whatever tickles your fancy
Lately I've been fascinated with the idea of flash mobs. I seriously want to participate in one some day! =D
And this...
... just amuses the fuck outta me. XD The way they run in screaming, dance, then run out screaming kills me.

day 04 → your favorite book
Ha.. this one is even harder than the TV show one.. I really don't have a favorite book, so for this segment I'll give a special shout-out to a book I've recently read that I really really enjoyed.

'The Snow Garden' by Christopher Rice. SOOOOOO good. I couldn't put it down. It's a mystery, and very twisted. But with gay. >3 Loved it.
Hee hee.. I almost missed today's. .^^ But I got it with 10 minutes to spare! XD

Jan. 3rd, 2010 10:36 pmday 03 → your favorite television program
This is another tough one, since I don't have one set favorite show. I have a lot of shows that I like... and almost all of them are on the Food Network. XD
But to showcase one, I'll pick 'Ace of Cakes'.

It's about a bakery in Baltimore that makes custom cakes (starting at $1k!). The cakes they make are total works of art, and the staff and decorators are all dorky fun people. It's a blast watching them create these cakes, so it's the one show I make sure to watch every week.
The the website for the bakery featured on the show is here. =3

Let's be honest..
Jan. 2nd, 2010 11:37 pmday 02 → your favorite movie

I first saw this movie when I was a wee little kidling. I love love loved it, but was too young to make note of the name or the actors or anything like that. So when a friend showed it to me many years later I was like "OMG I remember loving this as a kid!" Of course, that was also a long time ago, in high school. Now that I knew the name of the movie, I tried looking for it on video, but could never find it. So every time I went to that friend's house, we'd watch it. For a few years I got to watch it at her place every few months. .^_^
Long after high school I mentioned how much I loved the movie and how it was my favorite, even if I never got to see it anymore, to a chick I was dating, and she somehow managed to get it for me on DVD. Best gift ever! But now that I own it, and can watch it any time I want, I never do. It has, however, always always remained my favorite movie.
I should totally watch it sometime.
And just for the record, my long time second favorite movie is 'Fiddler On The Roof'. Clearly, I have a thing for musicals. .^,^
In other news, I need some honesty here............
Am I a bitch?
*laugh* I mean.. We get regular customers at Target, and for the most part that's ok, I don't care. We have these two old guys who come in every morning, buy coffee, and just sit and talk to each other, or to me if I'm not busy. That's fine. I don't care.
But there's this guy. This weird, creepy little man who comes in every single day and just... sits.... I think in the three months he's been doing this - every single day - he's only ever bought something, like, twice. .>_> It weirds me out! But what really set me off is when he complained to the manager on duty that my tables were dirty, when they were perfectly fine.
So yesterday I was working in the cafe and there he was, just sitting. And I actually thought to myself "Why can't he just go away and die or something?" Then he comes up to me and gives me this pretty little jewelry box.
........ ::blink::
He said it was a holiday gift, and also had some stuff for my co-workers, and I totally felt like scum. .~_~ Here I am wishing he would disappear, and he's giving me presents.
I'm totally going to hell.
It's a rather beautiful little box, though. Antonio is trying to claim it, but he gets too much as it is. Maybe Rook can have it. ;P
