So... ACEN...
May. 22nd, 2008 03:02 pmBlah blah blah, will probably be half-assed because I'm lazy, blah.
So it all began Thursday night; I went over to friend Stina's house so we could leave early Friday morning. Apparently her family is loaded, and I commented that about three of my house could fit into hers. .>_> Her parents are also bible-thumping freaks, but very nice. .^^ I mean... when asking where to put my car for the weekend her dad gave me this look and asked if my car leaked oil. ::blink:: Right... wouldn't want any signs of a car on your pristine driveway. Anyway... I said that I didn't think so, so was granted permission to remain parked in the driveway, instead of the street. But still! rather friendly people. Her mom was on the phone when I arrived, so later, when Stina, Kai (the other friend we went with), and I were sitting in one of the guest rooms, all playing on our laptops ( XD ), she came bouncing in (yes... bouncing .^^ ) and apologized for "being rude" 'cause she was on the phone before. .^^
We made a run up to the store for snacks and stuff, then back to Stina's place. Since I was done with all my cosplay stuffs, so had nothing to do while they worked on theirs and thus was a bit bored, I went to sleep, probably around 2-2:30am or so. Stina and Kai, on the other hand, apparently didn't get to bed until after 4am, then Stina got up at 6am to get ready. I was up and ready by 7am on Friday, and the initial plan was to leave by 8am, but apparently some people take... a much longer time to get ready, so it was after 9:30am when we finally left.
Taking mommy's expensive new car with GPS ensured we didn't get lost along the way. I spent the trip staring out the window, playing Final Fantasy III, and watching PoT OVAs on my laptop. .^^ Was a pretty good trip.
Got to the hotel and checked in, put full cosplay on (I was Mikami that day, and had the shirt, pants, shoes, etc. on), and headed for the registration line.
....
SIX HOURS later we finally got our badges. And we were pre-reged.... .-_- By then it was passed 9:30pm, I was tired, starving, crampy, and bleeding profusely. Cranky emo doesn't even begin to describe. The whole day, as a con day, was wasted.
....Though I think I saw another Mikami cosplayer.. Some guy, in a suit and coat, longish hair, glasses... carrying a Death Note. But he was so bland and typical skinny otaku looking... and had the wrong Death Note. .^^ Yes, I'm picky about that.
Well, after that bit of retardation we met up with Kai, who already had her badge 'cause she knew people.. ( .>_> ) ..who in her wandering around had met and was having dinner with one of the owners of 4chan. .^^ He was kind of dorky, and kind of cute. But between cramps and bad shoes, I was in so much pain that I couldn't stick around long. So I, like the lamer I am, went back to the room, overdosed on aspirin, took a looooooooooong hot shower, ate, and started watching HigaMyu. Then Stina and Kai came back, and we messed around for a while, then went to bed.
Saturday was the day I was looking most forward to. Probably because I was debuting a cosplay I'd never worn before. .^__^ Daisya! =D I got up about 8am and started getting ready. I wanted to hit up the dealer's room as soon as it opened, so I could look for one of the official Black Order pins (to replace the makeshift cloth ones I had on) before the D.Gray-man photoshoot. I was pretty much ready by 9am, and that's when Stina and Kai woke up. Stina said it wouldn't take too long for them to get ready, so I waited for them. .... This turned out to be a bad idea/waste of my time. It took them two hours to get ready. .-_- Then when we finally left they swore they knew where the dealer's room was, so I followed them around... and around and around... Couldn't find it. Stopped and asked some people if they knew where it was, got blank-fucking-looks in response. Idiots. If you don't know, just say no. Don't just stand there looking at us like you're stupid or something.
When we finally found it, Stina and Kai said they were going to look for a friend's table in artist's alley, so I was left to my own devices. ... Which involved scanning all the booths for that pin. Which I found. .^_^ Then immediately ran over to artist's alley, since I knew my friends Melanie and Chris had a table there. I found them, said hi, then asked for a pair of scissors. .^^ Which I used to cut off the makeshift Black Order patch I had on, and put on the pin. Shiny! =D That made me official. .^^ Then back to the dealer's room, where I bought a new charm for my phone. Oh noes! After two years the Tezuka charm has finally been replaced. .^^ With Tyki. ;P
At some point I met back up with Stina and Kai, and their friend Jess, and we went to get tickets for the concert and masquerade. Which involved a lot of running around, 'cause people kept telling us different placed to get them. And ya know... my Daisya boots are HUGE, so my feet were starting to kill very very badly. We got the tickets, then went and got in line for the concert. Got into the concert after a tiny bit of drama over them not letting Jess's big gourd (she was cosplaying Gaara) in, then letting it in...
The concert was fun. We saw Peelander-Z, and they were a blast; so silly and energetic. Of course, because I'm lame... and because my feet hurt so bad, I sat in the seats while everyone else stood at the stage. But that's ok. .^_^ And after them was... some girl-JPop duo that I can't remember the name of and that we didn't stick around for. .^^
It was getting close to the time for the D.Gray-man photoshoot, but I wanted to use the restroom before that started... which turned out to be one of the most difficult bathrooming experiences I've ever had. .^^** I had to basically take my boots off, all while holding my cape forward so I didn't piss on it, and the whole time my bell kept smacking the stall walls which was just embarrassing. .^^ Then afterwards I had to put the boots back together and blah! .^^ So much difficult.
But while I was in there, washing my hands and touching up the lines on my face, a cute little Tyki cosplayer ran up and glomped me, asking if she could kill me later. XD I said yes, of course.
So after running back to where everyone else was to tell them I was going to the photoshoot, I went over to where it was. And all the other DGM cosplayers said "OMG, DAISYA!!" and there was much glomping and happiness. XD Then we went outside and had a ton of fun taking cracktastic pictures. XD
For the record, there were several Allens, a few Linalees, three Kandas, and a shitload of Lavis. .^^ Plus a handful of Tykis and Roads, one Komui, one Bak, one Crowly, two Mirandas, two Earls, one set of Jasdebi twins, one Skinn.... and one Daisya. .^_^ And I was like the Tyki bicycle... everyone got a ride.. .... So to speak. ;P It was a lot of fun.
After that bit of magic I was starving, since I hadn't eaten, except a pop-tart at 9am, so I went over to the coffee shop in the hotel and got a sammich. That's where Stina, Kai, and Jess found me, and we all sat around and ate until it was time to go to the masquerade. ... Where there was again drama about Jess's gourd getting in. Except this time they absolutely wouldn't let it in. .>_> So she hid it under a table outside the hall.
The masquerade was fun, with 90% of the skits involving yaoi in some way. .^^* It's like a new trend.... This is also where I concluded I must not watch enough anime, as I didn't know what half the cosplays were.. .>_>
We didn't stick around for the awards, though. Instead we just hung around for a while, mostly outside, so Stina could smoke. D= I saw another Crowly cosplayer, but I was stuck behind a door (which hit me every time someone came in or out.. .-_- ) so I couldn't get a picture. And again, my feet were KILLING me, so again, I was the lame and just went back to the room by myself. .... In the rain. .>_> So the whole time I was walking back to our hotel I was ultra-paranoid about my pin and/or bell getting rusty. .^^*
When I got back to the room I immediately took off my boots, to discover my feet had been bleeding. .O_O I would describe how large the area of missing skin is, but it's just gross. .>_> And I'll spare you a description of the blister on my pinkey toe that was the size of... a second pinkey toe. .>_< Needless to say.. I was in a lot of pain.
Everything else was just a replay of Friday night, but without the emo. I had so much fun at the concert and masquerade and photoshoot Saturday, emo levels were very low. .^^
... Until Stina and Kai brought strange guys to the room. .>_> And that didn't really upset me so much as make me uncomfortable and a bit embarrassed, because I was so tired that I couldn't help but keep dozing off, while trying not to fall asleep with my butt all up in the air. .^^* Yes, I sleep on my face.
... But FUCK, why is it that every time I room with younger people I end up being faced with total strangers watching me sleep? How about you go to their room instead of bringing them to ours? Mm'kay?
...... Randomly, I'm surprised at how much of this I remember, four days after the event. .^^*
So. Sunday was my first really really comfortable day of the weekend. X3 Tezuka cosplay, FTW!!! I swear to gods, my feet screamed their thank yous when I put sneakers on. .^^**
We had to check out of the room by noon, so we got that all squared away early. Then Stina was going to meet up with her ex-boyfriend to return some of his stuff to him, so Kai and I went to the dealer's room. Walked around for a bit, I bought stuff, etc. The old Power Rangers were there, and Kai said she wanted an autograph, so we separated, since I wasn't interested. I scoured the dealer's room and the artist's alley for a gift for Nee-chan, but couldn't really find anything. I was hoping to get some really awesome fanart of Lavi for her, but nobody was doing any DGM stuff (was all Naruto.. ::eyeroll:: ) and I didn't have any reference pics, so I couldn't even commission anything. .;_; But eventually I found some DGM pins that had little dangley things for whichever character, so I bought the Lavi one for Nee... and the Tyki one for myself. .^^
All of Sunday was spent in the dealer's room, though. The moment I went to leave to try and meet up with everyone else, I ran into them coming in. .^^ So it was back into the dealer's room, where I had thought I'd browsed every table there, but apparently had missed one, because Stina drew my attention to a bunch of PoT thingies. =D One of the things they had were keychains/lanyards in team colors, so I bought the Seigaku and Hyoutei ones... then immediately changed the lanyard my con badge was on to the Seigaku one. .^_~ And... umm... I think I bought other stuff too, but can't remember.. .^^
Ooh! And I got a picture with one of the Peelander-Z guys. .^____^ Too cute.
Then we left, I guess. Kai and I fell asleep almost immediately when we got into the car, and dozed until we stopped in Korea Town outside of Chicago, looking for yummy Korean foods. But, uh... everything there was closed. D= So we moved on, and eventually stopped at some hick restaurant in the middle of Indiana. ::chuckle:: The plate of food Stina and Kai each got were huge, so of course they got boxes to take it home. They each wrote their names in katakana on top of their boxes, and when the waitress saw it she was like "that's cool!" and left, then came back with a piece of paper with her name written on it, asking if Stina would write her name in Japanese. Well.. actually she had her nickname written down, so when Stina saw it she replied "It's not going to be very exciting.." .^^* The waitress's name was Jenine, and her nickname that she had written down was "Nini." So Stina wrote "ニニ" (nini) on the paper. .^^ As she said, not very exciting. She also wrote down "ジェニーン" to give her something a little more show-off-able. .^^
Rest of the trip I did the same as on the way down; played games, watched anime, watched HigaMyu, stared out the window, etc. .^^ We got back around 10:30pm, and then I had the 45-minute drive home on top of that. So I was pretty exhausted by the time I got home, but a very happy puppy when I arrived. .^__^
.... Then I had to work at 8am on Monday. .>_>
And... that's it. .^_^
I'll post pictures later. .... Maybe. Actually, knowing me I'll probably laze out and not get around to it.
So it all began Thursday night; I went over to friend Stina's house so we could leave early Friday morning.
