indulging in hobbies
Aug. 16th, 2010 09:41 amBefore I continue eating delicious anime, I have to talk dolls.
See, the owning of teh dorries is more than just picking out their eyes and hair and taking a ridiculous amount of pictures of them. They're a lot of hard work! (well, sometimes)
Me, I like to coat my guys in a layer of Volks UV Cut Powder Spray. It's just a finishing spray that puts a clear protective layer on them, that also happens to help block UV rays, to prevent yellowing. (to a degree, of course. it's impossible to stop yellowing altogether) I started doing this, mm..... probably around a bit after I got Tachi.
So B has had his coating for three years now, and it's getting bad. I don't know why his is so much worse off than Tachi or Gü (maybe because he's bigger and more difficult to handle... maybe because he's an old man..), but it's rubbing off and chipping in a lot of places. Before I got him socks, his shoes would stick to his feet and leave black chunks on him when I took them off. And he's just dirty. So I've decided to remove the coating he currently has, give him a good cleaning and sanding, and put a fresh, new coat on. And luckily, there are many Volks stores around me now, so getting the stuff to do all this with is easy.
It was a bit difficult, because I didn't know what to use to take the old coating off. I'd heard they have a makeup remover (for taking off faceups), and I was going to try for that, but when I went to the store they totally didn't have any. I pondered and pondered what to do for a while, and finally just grew the balls to ask someone who worked there. Now, a "friend" that I was talking about this with later said (somewhat snottily) that I should be able to do that by now (ask for help in stores), but ya know, in all the Japanese classes I took, not once did we ever cover how to ask which product won't melt resin dolls, nor did we learn how to ask about removing a UV protective coating so we can re-apply it fresh. Sure, I can order a hamburger or say I want my curry spicy, but this is a little different. But somehow, I did it, and I'm proud of myself for it. ... And anyone who wants to be a bitch about that can go fuck themselves.
Anyway! The point is, I now have all the materials to give B a super cleaning. .... Except I need to wait for better weather. .^^;; I hear if I use the spray when it's humid out, it won't dry properly and will end up sticky and funky.
But I did try a test area last night. Just the bottom of one of his feet, where there were shoe-chunks. And it turned out so well! There's a huge difference where the dirty, old coating came off, and where it's still on. It's pretty amazing. So I'm super excited to do this now.
He'll look stunning.
With that being said, and speaking of a stunning B..
New story!
In which we see it's impossible for any man to not look hot in white pants. ;3
