Happy Birthday,

Günter!

There are mushy words I want to say, to commemorate five years with this amazing little guy, but there's no language that can appropriately capture how I feel.

I know, I know. He's a freaking doll and it's a stupid hobby, but he came at a time when I felt like I'd lost everything, my friends and the entire life I'd made for myself in California. Everything I'd spent years working for, I'd lost, and was stuck moving back into the basement of my family's house in shitty-ass Michigan.

But then I saw this beautiful little face, looking so sad and lonely. I was sad and lonely too. And so I parted with pieces of my anime collection. I sold off things that I really liked, because I wanted him more than anything. It was well worth it.

While I attribute it to the doll himself, I think what having Günter really did for me was give me a creative outlet and a distraction from all the stuff that's pissed me off over the past five years. When I'm taking pictures, or plotting storylines, or even just thinking about cute outfits that would look good on him, it's given me moments where my mind is empty of all but the creativity. It's like a meditation.

Since that day, five years ago, I've of course gotten other dolls. And I do love them all. They're all wonderful in their own ways, and I wouldn't part with any of them for the world. But Gü is special. He was my first, the first one I undoubtedly had to have.


So, happy birthday, mein liebechen. Thank you for these past five years, and here's to many, many more.

Of course there is no way I'm going to let a post on Günter go without making at least an effort to comment.

Sadly, that effort comes in the form of: are we going to see an update on Gü's trip to Japan in the near future? *_*
