Ok, at long last, here is my something like a review of HyoteiMyu.

What I did was during the intermission and after the show I wrote down quick little thoughts/bullet points. So here I'll just post what I wrote and expand with further impressions.
First of all, though, I must mention my seat. I had whined before about how I ended up on the third balcony so probably wouldn't be able to see anything. ... I take that back. I could see forever! The third balcony was almost right over the stage, and not too high/far away at all. Because it's angled over the stage, instead of straight on, I was probably able to see even better than if I'd had floor seats. And even more, unlike floor seats, the balcony seats were stadium-style, so I sat up a bit higher than the (one) row of people in front of me, so could see over their heads. So I admit, I whined too soon - the seat was great.
The only drawback was that for the encore song, when the actors run through the audience, the third balcony was way too far away for any of them to come to. So no high-fives for me this time. .;_;
Second of all, I mentioned in my quick post before leaving for the show that there was no way 2nd season's HyoteiMyu could be the same as the first one, and that was true. In addition to Taki being included (though thankfully they didn't leave Hiyoshi out until the end, like in the anime .^^; ), there were a few new songs! ... That was not always a good thing. .>_>
Now, my bullet points:
And that's all I wrote. .^,^
After the show I did way too much shopping, spent way too much money, and accidentally walked into a butler cafe. .^^; (To be fair, a few months ago it was a doll shop, and reading signs is hard.)
But, all in all, it was a great day. .^_____^

Did you enjoy my adventure? Next time, let's go together. .^_~

Now, my bullet points:
- Mori did announcement. Good!
- No 'Yudan Sezu ni Ikou' song - something new
- Oh, there they are
- No 'Koori no Emperor' song - something new - gay
- New song - Taki vs. Shishi
- Of course, different guests = different parts
- Flying bro-fist! XD
- Yuushi's voice is *perfect*! (speaking more so than singing)
- 'Ore wa Burning' made me miss Akutsu. XD
- No 'Ore-sama no Bigi ni Boogie-Woogie' - new song - Not Good! - D= - rather, not nearly as much fun
- Either the platform for Tezuka and Atobe's duel is smaller this time around, or it just looks smaller from this point of view.
- Extended Ryo vs. Hiyo song
- New song at end (?) - generic, so may have just forgotten - new song also generic
- Nothing really fun or notable during curtain call
- Speech/skit after curtain call
-The special guests in this showing were Mori and Uchimura, from Fudomine (which I had forgotten that they'd been added to FudoMyu). Like how Mizuki did the rules/announcements before the show when I saw St.YamaMyu, Mori did them this time. It was cute. .^,^
-I was waiting for it, but left hanging. Tezuka did sing the reprise of it in his duet with Atobe, though.
-I forgot that Hyotei doesn't even show up until 30 minutes into the show.
-I didn't like this new song nearly as much as the one it replaced. It wasn't bad, just... not as evil. It sounded like a waltz, and they had lights that looked like stained-glass windows twirling on the stage. Atobe did sing the reprise of 'Koori no Emperor' in his duet with Tezuka, though.
-Though Shishido doesn't sing in it. I don't really remember the song at all, though.
-I don't remember why I wrote that. .^^; I think it was something like, of course there were changes in scenes/dialogue since Kamio and Fudo guys were the guests this time, instead of Akutsu and Yama guys like when I saw it in 2005.
-During the doubles 2 match, at one point Gakuto leapt through the air and tapped fists with Yuushi while flying by. ;P Was super cute!
-Also, this Gakuto actor (Jun Shison) was not nearly as acrobatic as the first Gakuto actor (Ruito Aoyagi). I was just a little bit disappointed in his lack of flippy-ness.

But that face. XD
-It was somewhere right in between Kiuchi's and Saitou's. ♥
-One of my favorite things about the original HyoteiMyu was the way Akutsu would dance while refusing to take his hands out of his pockets. X3 Fudo guys' antics this time were cute, but... Akutsu!

But those arms. X3
-I have very strong opinions about the lack of this song. None of them are good.
-The only thing I liked about the new song was the end. .>_> (I mean, there was a cool little dance near the end, not that the song itself ended. ... Though I liked that too.)
-I thought they were actually going to hit each other for a second there.
-I still got to sing "Gekokujo daze, tsu-bu-se!" But now there was more, and Ryoma sang and danced more. I think maybe they did this because this time they have a Ryoma actor who actually can sing and dance. (But that in no way is meant as a slight on Yanagi. Having his body mangled was not his fault, and I still give him mad props for getting on stage at all at that time.)
-I didn't recognize the song at the end, so thought maybe it was new. Then I realized I didn't remember the song from the original HyoteiMyu, so became unsure. The end/finale group songs always sound really generic to me, so it's rare for them to stay in my mind.
-Now that I think about it, wasn't the original finale another rendition of 'Do Your Best'? Then maybe it was a new one this time. Either way, I don't remember.
-No hand holding or sweeping each other off their feet. Somehow, it made the cast feel less close to each other.
-Between that and my lack of high-fives, this show felt lame compared to St.YamaMyu. .^^;
-They called it a speech, but it was a skit. Two characters were chosen to do a short, impromptu skit. They chose Taka-san and Hiyoshi. XD Hiyoshi was begging Taka to teach him how to be stronger, and Taka stuffed Hiyo with sushi.
And that's all I wrote. .^,^
After the show I did way too much shopping, spent way too much money, and accidentally walked into a butler cafe. .^^; (To be fair, a few months ago it was a doll shop, and reading signs is hard.)

Okay, I have to say, new Taka-san looks awesome. I guess the new cast isn't too bad. Still can't compare to the old cast, but then, no one ever will.
Still, rather saddened by the lack of boogie-woogie.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. ^_^

Date: 2011-08-26 10:57 am (UTC)I think maybe new Atobe actor's voice couldn't handle the boogie-woogie, or maybe he just didn't like the song so insisted on something different(which... would be a strangely Atobe thing to do...), or maybe a producer or someone didn't like it. Or something. I don't know.
Overall, the new cast looks the parts very well, I just wish they were stronger vocally. But I do like that they're keeping the same cast throughout the whole series this time, instead of having different actors every show.
