I could talk about all the shit that's been thrown at me lately. I could talk about how pissed off I still am at the school, how terrified I am of the issues I've had trying to renew my visa, or how a certain state has randomly decided I own them money even though I haven't lived there in seven years. I could talk about how the stress had left me sitting in the middle of my floor, crying for an hour one night last week.

But I won't.

Instead, I'll lose myself in fandom, which lets me forget everything. At least for a little while.

Instead, I'll talk about Cancer.

I love Cancer.

... I mean the horoscope, not the disease.

Specifically, I mean the horoscope zodiart.

Kamen Rider Fourze is finally getting interesting, largely because of a certain twisted little brat.

In Fourze, the monsters of the week are called zodiarts, and they're based on western constellations. Cygnus, Perseus, Orion, and so on. And the higher-ups - the apostles - are horoscopes. The series started off with Scorpio, then Libra. Virgo and Leo have been around, though they haven't done anything yet. And the story, the motivation behind these bad guys' actions, is that they're looking for the other eight apostles. They do that by handing out switches to the students at the school where this all takes place. The switches turn the students into zodiarts, which gives them power, and, generally, they start rampaging around the school. If the "switcher" ends up losing their humanity while they're a zodiart, they could evolve into a horoscope.

Early on in the series, there was a guy named Makise who used his zodiart power to try and take revenge on about 20 girls who had turned him down. His revenge involved trapping them on a bus and driving it off an unfinished bridge. Of course, in the end the day was saved, but even with trying to murder 20 girls, Makise just didn't have what it took to evolve.

And then came Kijima.

Kijima did nothing special. He framed a teacher just because she took his fan away from him, and because "It was fun." He didn't do that much, and yet he evolved. He became Cancer. Which leads us to believe he didn't have all that much humanity in him to begin with.

And damn do I adore him.

He's a rakugo specialist, so he has a clever way with words. He often speaks in wordplay, and loves twisting things into a joke. His smile is super cute, but he can also turn really evil really fast. And I find myself totally loving his voice.

Moreover, I really, really love the interaction between him and Libra. Being, they're constantly antagonizing each other. Libra is the school's principal, and has been a horoscope for quite a while, so he feels he has a measure of authority over Cancer. Cancer feels that since they're both apostles now, they're equals, and he doesn't like being ordered around. So my first impression was along the lines of "Wow, they really hate each other."

But after watching the scene of them together in episode 25, my opinion changed a bit. Cancer goes out of his way to tease Libra, almost like... well, like a young boy with a crush. That's really how it comes off to me.

Of course, I wear BL goggles, and I admit I have a bias. I also don't care. I can see schoolboy crush on principal if I want.

Anyway.

In conclusion, I enjoy seeing Cancer's blessed, smiling face. It makes me happy, and that's something I really need right now.

Unfortunately, I have the sneaking suspicion he's only a temporary character, and may not be around for very long.

Alas.

And for the record, I'm really rather NOT FOND of cancer the disease. At all. It can go to hell.
