I'm not crazy, but...
Nov. 15th, 2012 12:47 pmDoes it make sense to say, if someone wants to stab someone else in the chest, they shouldn't go at it straight on, since they'd hit the sternum, but rather at an angle? What is the best way to stab someone to death?
....... What? It's a story involving the mafia, violence is going to happen.

Date: 2012-11-15 04:12 pm (UTC)If you have to go for the chest, try going for an upper slice to puncture the diaphragm. An upward jab from just beneath the ribs with a reasonably long knife (around 9 to 12 inches should suffice) will cut through the diaphragm and destroy the vacuum in the chest cavity and cause asphyxiation.
Furthermore, keeping the blade parallel to the ground (flat side horizontal) should increase the chances of slicing between two ribs rather than hitting the bone. Of course, even if you manage to avoid bone, you still need to push pretty hard to get through all the muscle.
(And the reason I know all this is because these are precisely the things I have to watch out for when doing surgery. *shifty eyes*)
Or you can try stabbing at the heart, which is slightly off center. Usually if you palpitate about two palm widths up from the xiphoid process and two finger widths to the left, you'll be around the atrium of the heart, and a successful puncture will also guarantee death. (Or if you use a needle, draw atrium blood for analysis. >.>)
Yes, I am a fount of scary trivia. ^_^
