I wrote this a while ago, after researching about raising a blind child. I was a little bit surprised that blind kids actually need to be taught to trace their way around, it's not innate or instinctive. Then I wrote this, but never posted it. Heh.
Title: untitled
Series: as-of-yet-unnamed series that needs a name
Characters: Kiku, Luka
Genre: romance
Rating: PG
Warnings: So much fluff.
The door latch made barely a sound as it was carefully opened, but Kiku woke up instantly anyway. His years of assassin training were still with him, and his muscles immediately tensed at the almost non-existent click, ready for fight or flight. And honestly, it would be fight.
But when Luka's silver head peeked in, he forced himself to relax.
"Kiku," Luka whispered. "Are you awake?"
"I... Yeah..."
"Can I sleep with you?"
Kiku's body grew warm as his eyes widened in the dark. His shyness made him want to say no, but he could never refuse Luka anything. He loved the boy too much.
When Kiku first met Luka, he was astonished with how lovely he was. But Luka was just a kid then, and fell more into the 'cute' category. And Luka always followed him and looked at him. Even though Luka couldn't see, Kiku felt as though he were watching him.
Now, at 15, Luka was growing quite beautiful. Slender and pale and always smiling. At the high school he attended, he had many people who wanted to date him, but still Luka only looked at Kiku. Kiku didn't know why or what he did to deserve Luka's affection, but he knew, without a doubt, that the feelings were mutual, and that he loved Luka.
"Mm," Kiku gave a small sound of ascension. "Yeah... you can."
He heard Luka smile as he carefully, quietly closed the door. "Don't tell Papa, though. He'll get mad."
"Oh..."
"At you."
Kiku didn't respond, and Luka giggled at him. His eyes were quickly adjusting to the dark, and he could see the smile on Luka's face, and decided it would be worth the risk.
He then watched as Luka reached out a hand, lightly running his fingers along the wall as he walked. Luka knew the path to Kiku's bed, but usually traced his way there so he wouldn't run into anything. And Kiku always made sure to leave that path clear so that Luka would never trip or be hurt. Following his way along the wall, to the dresser, to a corner and further, Luka easily found his way to the foot of Kiku's bed. Climbing up, he stretched his body out much like a cat as he slid a hand along the edge of the mattress. Then he wormed his way up until he was lying beside Kiku.
He was warm, as usual, and Kiku felt his own body grow hot as a blush spread across him. It was kind of embarrassing - surely Nicholai never blushed - but it only got worse when Luka took his hand and led it around himself. For a while, neither said anything, only listened as their breathing slowed and hearts came to beat in unison.
And then Luka's small hand ran its way up Kiku's chest, along his neck, stopping at his cheek. As he cupped Kiku's face gently, he tilted his head back and asked "Can I kiss you?"
Kiku's heart sped up, beating wildly in his chest. Though he and Luka were close, inseparable, they'd never kissed before. Kiku hadn't kissed anyone at all in a very long time. But he remembered that time, and his brows drew together as he averted his eyes in the dark. "You should only kiss people you're serious about..."
"I know," Luka smiled at him, then leaned in closer. "I think so too."
He didn't know what to say, but Kiku filled with happiness and anxiety and anticipation. He pulled Luka nearer to him, their faces lying close to each other. Then, after a moment, Luka leaned forward, closing the space between them and bringing their lips together. It was soft, chaste at first, but gradually became deeper. They gently sucked on each other's lips, shyly let their tongues touch. Kiku loved the way Luka tasted and felt.
Then, all too soon, it was over. Luka pulled back and moved to snuggle his head under Kiku's chin. Kiku figured it was probably for the best - his body was starting to get ready for more, but they couldn't do that. Luka was far too young, though Kiku knew he would wait forever if he had to for the right time.
For now, he continued to hold the boy, warm and comfortable. He could feel Luka smile against him, and heard him whisper "I'm so happy."
And Kiku was too, though he couldn't say as much. So he just squeezed Luka tighter, held him closer.
They drifted off to sleep together, with smiles on their faces and their hearts beating in unison again.
