I blame
cashew for this. It's all her fault.
Fine. I will try NaNoWriMo. I don't know how well I'll do or how far I'll get, especially since starting next week I'll be working six days a week again. But in the end, I am rather curious as to how far I can get. So, I'll try. TRY.

Date: 2012-11-03 04:35 pm (UTC)Come along, I will count words with you! I recommend getting a word counter and flailing as you hit each milestone. It's very helpful. And there's lots of tricks to be had, like typing 200 words at a time in short bursts to help keep the flow of creativity going.

What's a word counter, and how do I get one?
And, thank you. I will keep any and all tricks in mind, should I need them. So far the story idea has grabbed me so hard that the first two parts are coming out in one shot. I think I wrote for a few hours straight yesterday, and have been at it a few hours today as well. Unfortunately, I write the old-fashioned way... with a pencil and paper. So I won't have a word count until I can stop writing long enough to type up what I have. Also, my hand is starting to cramp. .o_o

Date: 2012-11-04 05:07 pm (UTC)Well, if you do get a chance to type things up, you can track your word count with word meter (http://spontaneousderivation.com/2008/02/06/6-word-meters-and-trackers-for-the-word-count-obsessed/) (or what I call a word counter) to keep track of your progress. The little bars fill up and give you a sense of accomplishment as you inch your way closer to your goal.
Or, better yet, sign up at the official site (http://www.nanowrimo.org) and it will track your progress for you, with daily goals and word averages and telling you how many words you need to write per day in order to win. My account is "twelve to midnight" if you wanna hook up as writing buddies. :D But be warned that the NaNo website dies a lot as hundreds of thousands of people swarm in to write and update their word count.
Once you hit the wall, I will be here cheering you on. That's what NaNo buddies are for! And go you for even trying!
